Before you LEARN to do the right things, you need to UNLEARN the wrong things first.
Here are some things you have to stop doing if you want to build a successful network marketing business online:
What most amateur network marketers are doing is they are spamming their network marketing company’s name and products all over the internet world. This kind of strategy is called repulsion marketing. Instead of repulsion marketing, you should be PRACTICING attraction marketing, that is the best strategy to build and grow your network marketing business.
You should be attracting people to yourself, not push or keep them away.
In simply put, stop pushing your product names & opportunity links on your social media handles and the Facebook wall of other people.
What should you do instead?
1. Provide Value
There are a couple of ways in which you can provide value to someone else.
The easiest way to provide value is to solve a problem. Figure out a pain point and offer a solution for it. Whether people have issues with their health or their finances if you can offer them a solution that solves their problems you can easily deliver value.
Start by providing value to your targeted audience for free and this will help you build the know, like, and trust factor. When your target audience knows you, likes you, and trusts you, then you’ll have the authority to sell your product or business opportunity to them without any rejection.
You can provide value through blog posts, e-books, social media posts, One-on-one coaching sessions, webinars, consulting sessions over the internet, newsletters, print books, membership programs, and much more.
Help people achieve more and they’ll also help you get what you want. It’s a win-win game.
2. Show Care
Start genuine conversations with people who comment on and like your posts, without pushing your products, service, or opportunity on them.
People want to feel cared about. People buy people in today’s world, not products, so be a human first.
They love to buy things, but they don’t want to be sold to. They like to feel like they discovered something cool. Bear that in mind and you’ll be successful.
The real value and asset in your home business is not the product you promote or the network marketing company you signed up with. The real asset in a real business is YOU.
Your real business is your brand, your skills, and your solutions. By serving others, solving people’s problems, building relationships, and providing value, you become a highly valued person. You can then name your price for whatever you are selling or promoting.
By branding yourself, you are putting yourself in the position of “servant leadership”, as referred by John Maxwell.
YOU are the brand, and ‘you’ are the expert. Not your product or the network marketing company you signed up with.
Because here is the fact, companies come and go, but YOU last forever!
According to statistics, 90% of businesses don’t survive their first 5 years in any industry. And we’ve seen many MLM companies changing their compensation plans overnight, which leaves network marketers like you and me with zero income. Build your business on concrete, not quicksand… Brand YOU.
All the skills and knowledge you gain while building your brand, providing value, and creating a relationship with your prospects cannot be taken away from YOU.
This is why it’s a good thing to have a personally branded online presence.
Build a website or a Facebook page as a base, create content around what you are leading with. The content can be in the form of blog posts, videos, or podcasts.
Do not share the name of your products or company?
Because many distributors are promoting the same thing as you.
If you mention the name of your company or product, chances may be that people will do a Google search for it before they reach out to you or hang out with another person they found while searching on Google.
If you mention your company and product name on social media or website, you’ll lose control over the sales process in which your prospects go on.
You shouldn’t allow that. You have to let your prospects buy from only you and no one else.
Don’t talk about the features of your products or services, because no one cares. Show your prospects what exactly your product or opportunity does for them.
And when they’re excited about the benefit they will get from your product or business, ask them to reach out to you for more information.
This strategy will position you as an expert and someone with credible authority and a leader to follow.
There are two types of prospecting you’ll want to do simultaneously when building your network marketing business.
Active Prospecting
Active prospecting is when you initiate a conversation with the intention of seeing if the person with whom you’re speaking is a “fit” for your product or opportunity.
I recommend when starting you do active prospecting because there is little or no cost involved and you will get a more immediate result. Examples of active prospecting include sending out social media direct messages, calling leads, connecting with people, and participating in networking groups. You are actively educating others on your opportunity with the intention to recruit them.
The negative side of active prospecting is that it is often time-consuming and they face a lot of rejection. However, this is usually the preferred option for new marketers because they are unable or unwilling to invest in resources that would provide them with other solutions.
When you are starting, first, contact some specific people and let them know that you have a business opportunity that they need to take a look at. Don’t do it in a needy way. Remember, people don’t want to be convinced and that shouldn’t be your goal.
You can say something like this…
“Hey, I know you told me you were looking for some extra income before to help you ________. Is that still true? This may or may not be for you, but I think you really need to take a look at this thing that I found. It’s the best work-from-home opportunity I’ve come across so far and I’m going to run hard with it, so I didn’t want you to get mad at me later for not letting you know about it. If you want some info, there’s a video I can share with you. Just let me know.”
Make sure to wait for their answer after you ask if they’re still looking for extra income. Your closest peeps will WANT to learn more about it when you talk to them like this, rather than pitching them.
Talk to people because network marketing is about talking to people.
So even though I build online I do encourage startups to start with active prospecting, so they can create a success story fast.
However, you’ll want to move past this phase of active prospecting as fast as possible and start building your passive prospecting as your long-term strategy.
Passive Prospecting
Passive prospecting is also known as “Passive Marketing” or “Attraction Marketing” which comes into play when marketers realize that their time is more valuable. This type of marketing involves prospects seeking them out because they were attracted by some valuable piece of content that they posted online.
The reader or viewer is encouraged to take some type of action, such as filling out a form or comment on a post, and that person then becomes a lead. The focus is using tools, systems, and automation that work on their behalf around the clock to create a pipeline of individuals reaching out to them consistently. Therefore, their time is primarily spent educating prospects who have already expressed an interest in what they have to offer.
In simply put, passive prospecting is when you get your automation in place to work day and night for you.
The negative side of passive prospecting is that there is usually a cost or investment required to set things up, and the results are not always immediate. Because these strategies are not readily taught inside of Network Marketing companies many marketers shy away from it and believe they don’t need to do it to become successful.
For many successful Network Marketers, they combine both active and passive prospecting to either keep their pipeline full or keep their business growing.
Initially, a new network marketer has an untapped warm market, a resource of friends, family, and acquaintances to help get them started. At this stage, active prospecting is not necessary. However, instead of waiting until their warm market dries up, a recommended strategy would be to simultaneously produce content and set things up to be able to have prospects come in passively in the future.
When done properly the new network marketer can transition from prospects in their original warm market to new prospects who have entered their warm market through social media.
So when should active prospecting be performed?
When new network marketers’ businesses are in momentum and they have downline business partners who are keeping them busy then just like in the beginning active prospecting is not necessary. Active prospecting should only be performed when someone’s business is not in momentum and they are looking to get back into momentum as soon as possible.
Consequently, most businesses are in this stage so the need for active prospecting is usually the norm and not the exception.
What is the recommended platform for Active Prospecting?
So if active prospecting is necessary for a network marketer then the recommended platform is LinkedIn. I have indicated that active prospecting is often time-consuming, and that is because most social media platforms are designed to keep their users entertained. So, when someone is prospecting on a platform like Facebook, they have to warm up their prospects because users are not on Facebook to discuss business. This, of course, takes precious time. LinkedIn, however, is a professional network where users are there to discuss opportunities. Therefore, time is saved by skipping the “chit-chat” and getting straight to business.
LinkedIn also has one of the best searching platforms that allow network marketers to find professionals who would be ideal for their business. Users on LinkedIn are more likely to have their profiles filled out because they are looking for opportunities and want to be contacted and all of their information is public!
When LinkedIn’s robust searching platform and public user profiles are combined with the ability to message prospects in real-time then, again, it becomes clear why this is the recommended platform for active prospecting.
What About Passive Prospecting?
As discussed earlier, I recommend that passive prospecting strategies be established prior to running out of warm market prospects. Unfortunately, most new network marketers are not educated on how to set things up or don’t take the time to learn how to do it properly.
What typically happens is they become desperate when they realize they have no one to share their business with and start spamming their links all over social media hoping that someone will respond to their pitch. When no one responds they end up quitting.
I’ve seen this situation all too often which is why I’ve written a book to show you how to get started with Passive Prospecting to grow your network marketing business.
The problem here is that most network marketers when starting act out of desperation and start spamming social media channels with their company’s product links, this turns customers off.
Instead of your social media posts leading to your network marketing company replicated website, I advise that your social media post should direct your audience to your blog/website.
Let your blog control your traffic.
My blog, Influencer Networker gives TONS of value and establishes credibility.
A blog builds you up as an authority and gives you credibility, even if you don’t have success yet. If you have a blog, your audience perceives you differently. They see you as a credible leader.
Once you have people visiting your blog, you need to have a way to let them request more information from you.
If you’re not using a lead capture system in your business yet, you’re leaving a lot of opportunities on the table.
You need to fill your pipeline with higher-quality leads.
A lead is any person who indicates interest in your product or service in some way, shape, or form.
Lead generation is the process of finding, approaching, and following up with the prospects that are most likely to convert into customers.
Lead generation is a way of warming up potential customers to your business and getting them on the path to eventually making a purchase.
To capture your prospect’s information, you will need a landing page and a free lead magnet (free product or service).
After your prospects opt-in for your lead magnet (free offer), they should be plugged into an automated follow-up process so you can start building relationships with them.
To build a relationship with your prospects, you will need an email marketing service
